Meet the Team: Mary Young
Some background:
Mary Young has been a resident of Alabama since childhood. Her earlier days were spent in Prattville, AL with her family where she attended [ blank ] school. She studied her way to Troy University, where she met her husband, Matt. Together, Matt and Mary have become a team. Together, they now have three children and together, they are tackling homeschooling. They are currently parishioners of the City of St. Jude Parish in Montgomery, AL.
During her studies at Troy University, she worked her way to a Bachelors in Social Work. From there, she went on to receive her Masters in Social Work from the University of Alabama (dare I say “Roll Tide?”)
This education would be the groundwork for the great mission that lay ahead.
Since graduation, Mary has professionally worked in various nonprofit agencies and is passionate about empowering families to know their true dignity and worth. Mary has assisted many families in navigating barriers they have experienced; for the good and the bad.
She has practiced active listening skills to help empower them to make decisions that are best for their family. Mary has specifically worked with pregnant women and women with children by connecting them to resources, finding needs based support, and providing emotional support during difficult seasons. Utilizing empathetic responses and strategic planning, she actively engages and problem solves to help find best solutions. Maintaining relationships through follow up is a top priority for Mary, and she is committed to ensure that individuals feel confident and support during all times.
Mary witnessed the wide range of women who sought care from their pregnancy and post-pregnancy: women of all races, women of all religions, women of all social status. What she observed was, “All of these women have one thing in common, they all want Help.”
It was then that Mary was able to see firsthand, how important it is for women to be able to see their baby, even if only for a moment.
But now, this is where the story takes a turn.
Every now and then, that woman who fell in love with her child from the first look, from the first kick, from the first positive pregnancy test, does not get that “love-at-first-sight” moment. Sometimes, that child was not able to make it to the end of the pregnancy, and dies way too soon.
Mary has seen the grief that women suffer as they find out that their child has now passed, and she vows that while fighting for that unborn child, she will now fight for the mother.
Mary vows that,
